Penticton Farmer’s Market

Ah Penticton, such a great travel destination. Read on for info on good shops, restaurants, art and things to do in this sweet little city nestled between two lakes in the Okanagan.

The Farmer’s Market is one of the things I love most about Penticton. Food trucks, great produce, musicians and artists everywhere. These are my people. I thought i’d missed it, arriving in town so late in the fall, but i’m catching one of the last sessions of the year. It’s such a chill vibe. I met up with my friend Diana, ate dumplings and bao, and then headed off to our favourite used book store. This is the one I talk about in my Trip Reading List post with the 25 Novels that are set along the path of our upcoming trip.

If you’re planning a trip to Penticton between April and October be sure to include a good chunk of time here at the Farmer’s Market. There are loads of vendors and the whole scene is just very cool. Bonus round, there’s an amazing beach at the end of the market. Have a wander there, then check out some of the great restaurants along that strip, like Salty’s Beach House or go for great Turkish food at Elma. On my last trip into town we had lunch at the Hooded Merganzer in the hotel at the foot of the market. Great food, and we were perched out over the lake with a view that made me nostalgic for the days when I lived in this sweet city.

If you do find yourself here, besides gorgeous lakes, good restaurants and a great ski hill (but i’m a bit biased on that front, as I choose to live up there when i’m not travelling) Penticton has a lot of good art. The Penticton Art Gallery is a great public space, and really well run. They have a few different galleries and always have cool events and exhibitions happening. Once a year they do a big fundraiser auction. It was always one of our favourite events of the year when we lived. here.

There are good commercial galleries too. Just take a walk along Colourful Front Street (yes, it really says that on the signs) or Martin Ave and you’ll see some good stuff. These, along with the first few blocks of Main Street are a wanderer’s paradise. Loads of indy shops, good eats, ice cream and more.

Let me know if you make it there, or if you have other good tips on trips to Penticton.

Thanks for reading :-)
