How Many Picnic Baskets Before It’s a Collection?

Whoops, bought another picnic basket this weekend. I love these things. I sent this to my man and he responded with just the number 6 lol. Each one when you open it is its own little miracle though, with gingham linings, leather straps to hold in white ceramic plates, corkscrew and napkins strapped to their insides. I stayed up until the wee hours drawing this little homage. I think I could build one now’ i’ve analyzed their weave pattern so closely. Was supposed to be a quick sketch. I went overboard. But I do adore them. They deserve to be depicted with love.

It’s too cold here now to even think about picnics, but come spring, when we’re pitstopping here between adventures these will all be in action. Great for winery tours and painting on location; two of my favourite Okanagan activities.

Do you love a good picnic? I know they’re more romantic notion than practical adventure, but there’s a beauty to the planning, the packing, getting all set up in the right spot. It’s an art form; the antithesis of fast food. Do you have good picnic plans, ideas, memories? I’d love to hear them in the comments below.

Here’s a quick timelapse of this drawing. Funny to see in 30 seconds what took me about 4 hours to draw. All that texture! I had fun playing with different brushes to capture it and using the warp function once it was all done to make it balance better than the original sketch. Options that don’t really work with a traditional watercolour sketchbook.. So many fun options in Procreate. Loving digging into it. More drawings to come.

Thanks so much for reading, and don’t forget to sign up for updates to follow along on the adventure!
