Pike Place Market

Once upon a time I owned a kitchen store. We had a home decor store too, my biz partner and I. They were fun years. Not very profitable, since I didn’t have much of a business head yet, but we threw the best parties in our demo kitchen and always had lovely things in our own homes. Whenever I was in Seattle I’d check out Sur La Table and see what the grown-up kitchen retailers were selling. Beautiful linen tea-towels and napkins, richly hued Dutch ovens, ornate onion soup bowls, a gizmo for every function; I loved at all. Those were the days of always having my blow torch ready for a crème brûlée situation to present itself. It was all associated with candlelight and wine for me. The smell of roasting garlic, a playlist of great acoustic covers, people laughing and glasses clinking around a table. It was where connections were deepened and new friendships made. I still love a dinner party; both hosting and attending. My man and I have it down to an art. I kind of consider it the sport we play together. Same team, lots of high fives, and we enjoy the replay the next morning as we do the dishes and put the house back together.

Thanks so much for reading, and don’t forget to sign up for updates to follow along on the adventure!
